Welcome to 3rd Grade!
Third grade is an exciting year at MACS! This is the year students begin switching classes and learning from teachers who specialize in different subject areas.
Mrs. Soto teaches Reading and Writing, while Mrs. Varady teaches Math and Science. Students have a homeroom teacher and switch classes for part of their day. Both teachers teach Social Studies to their homeroom classes in the afternoon. Ms. Becky, our third-grade paraprofessional, supports students in both classrooms throughout the day.
Learning in Third Grade
Third graders work hard as they build stronger skills and become more independent learners. Students should bring their binder to school every day and can expect Reading and Math homework Monday through Thursday. We also encourage students to read for at least 30 minutes each day.
Our classrooms open at 8:00 a.m., and students are tardy after 8:15 a.m. Because our students switch classes and learning begins right away, minutes matter!
Beyond the Classroom
We love giving our students opportunities to learn through hands-on experiences!
This year, third grade is partnering with the Cade Museum for a new pilot program that allows students to explore what it means to be an inventor. The Cade Museum will visit our third graders monthly during Science.
Students will also have opportunities to take learning outside the classroom with field trips to the Santa Fe Zoo and Planetarium, Cade Museum, and a walking field trip to the Micanopy Museum, where they will explore local history using primary sources from our own community.
A Few Daily Details
Students should bring a healthy snack each day. Third-grade lunch begins at 11:50 a.m.
Staying Connected
Families are an important part of a successful third-grade year. Parents are welcome to contact either teacher through ParentSquare with questions or concerns.
We will meet individually with each family during September and October to discuss goals for their student. Sign-ups will be available shortly after Open House. Following the mid-year FAST assessment, we will also meet with families of students who may need additional support to discuss progress and ways we can work together.
We are excited for a great year of learning, growing, exploring, and having fun in Third Grade at MACS!
