Music Class News, October 15
The students are continuing to learn more of our program pieces for our November performance and Light Up Micanopy. Goals are as follows:
VPK & K - We echoed short phrases while physically exhibiting the length of the phrases with arched arm movements. We clapped the rhythm of the words and stepped beat. We also learned some sign language.
First – Distinguished loud and soft beats in songs. Clapped an ostinato (repeating) rhythm pattern while singing.
Second – Working on aurally indentifying the tonal center by sustaining it along with (so) in a piece called, “The Owl”.
Third – Conducted ¾ time which gives a visual sense of the strong first beat and lighter two and three. Since starting to learn G,A, &B on recorders I would like for each student to have a quality recorder by Christmas purchased at a music store. If you would like more information please contact Brenda Cooper-Derry.
Fourth – The students learned about the dotted quarter note followed by an eighth. They rhythm was sung in “Chair to Mend”.
Fifth – The students did a Dalcroze Exercise clapping each line twice so students can hear and see how each line relates to the others. The last pattern is used often in one of our performance pieces. All students are encouraged to practice at home if they have a recorder.
